Resolution 2014

Happy New Year!!  I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas and a safe and fun New Year's Eve! Both holidays were totally low key for us, which was perfect. Especially since none of us have been feeling very well for what seems like the past month.  I will share more on Christmas later when I get the pictures off of the camera and onto the computer.  For now, however, I am sharing my New Year's Resolution: Get Your Shit Together.  I was told that this is too aggressive (I totally had to just chant that cheer from high school to spell that *face palm*) and too broad of a subject matter...so I thought more about it and broke it into about 20 different categories.....here goes:

1)Eliminate undue stress by keeping up with your housework- In other words...don't wait until your home looks like a frat house before you clean it up.  Let me interject a note: it's not DIRTY...it's messy...as in, no there's not week old dishes sitting around, or garbage piled everywhere...it's just messy...and it drives me absolutely nuts!  By doing this I will be able to spend more time with my son and husband on our days off together instead of spending all day getting frustrated that it's taking forever to clean the house.

2) Organize your mind-  I'd forget my head if it wasn't attached these days.  So, I need to take the time to sit down and write EVERYTHING down so I don't forget anything...and learn to not wait to do something until it's too late and I'm running out the door...

3)Keep the car clean and in good repair-  Ugh.  I thought keeping up with car mess was bad before we had a toddler! Something I need to do every day.  I'm also going to try to keep the gas tank half full and make sure the oil is changed in a timely manner.

4) Shuck more money away into savings- enough said

5) Learn to manage my time more wisely-  Not just in order to accomplish more, but also in who I spend my time with.  I should spend less time with those who just make me feel bad about myself, and more time with those whom I like to be around, and who like to be around me.  Easier said than done, though.

6) Spend more time in my faith-  Go back to church, at least once a month.

7) Spend more time on ME-  All mothers can say "Amen" to this, I am sure.  I LOVE my family...but a girl needs some alone time every once in awhile.  I haven't really taken any since Hogan was born.  Sure, I have had days where he's been with a babysitter...but it's always either because I'm busy at work, or need to do a quick house cleaning, or need to go to the doctor or something that's not just sitting and relaxing, or taking a freaking NAP!  I am a believer that in order to take better care of those around me, I need to take better care of myself.

8) Stop feeling guilty-  I have the world's most guilty conscience! Someone in Bolivia can say that someone hurt their feelings and I instantly feel guilty and think "oh no! What did I say?" even though I have never met said Bolivian.  It comes from a lifetime of being sent on guilt trips by the older generations...:sigh: gotta love em.

9) The million dollar resolution-  I said last year that 2013 was the year I was FINALLY going to get healthy.  While steps were certainly taken in the right direction, I am still FAR from where I want to be.  I have more than a few issues with this topic...with myself and with others.  You can read more about this here.

10) Be the good- Be kind, be patient, be generous.

11) Take a Vacation- a VACATION....not just a trip.

12) Put down your phone- Seriously....put it down.

There you have it...my New Year's Resolution list.  Think I'll be able to get er done?  I certainly hope so!  I also hope that 2014 is the best year yet!

In Strength, Love & Faith, Thanks for Reading, Charity

  1. Thanks for sharing! I love resolutions. I make them every year and fail at most of them, but I try to remind myself that I am a work in progress. Hoping for only self-improvement in the coming year and wish you the best of luck with your own resolutions! By the way, I already have four kids at home, so what's one more? If you ever need a few guilt-free break hours, drop him off! We'd love it! :)

    1. Yeah...a few of these are carry over from last year because I didn't do them haha. Good luck with yours as well! Thank you for the offer of watching Hogan! I just might have to take you up on that one of these days! I'm sure he would love it too!
